HOT SUNDAY.....

.....so....I need colors!!!!

These are some  first blocks of my next proiect!

I use solid scaps for the stars and a beautiful dark gray fabric for the background :"Comma" by Brigitte Heitland for ZEN CHIC. 

Perfect for my stars.

I don't know how many blocks will have my proyect.....

Kaffe Fasset HST top

This has been my first work with Kaffe Fasset  (Paperweight Collection) so I have decided for a simple block to bring out the colors and the design of the fabrics.

I made 224 HST (12.5 cm finished) using also three gray shades: a good choise to balance so many colors.

But when I finished all the blocks I had to lay out them to see the result and decide for the colors position. OK.....where?

Not on my design wall: too small!

Of course on the floor! (Our friend floor: I think that the floor is a great instrument for the quilters!)

With the help of my hub (!?!) I created my personal "design floor" : a grid with string and adhesive tape. A perfect grid with the quilt measures (about 2,00 cm x 2,20 CM)

Little by little, I composed my top, checking the colors and the measures.

I have to say...this grill has been a big trick!

I made a little squares border and now I'm working on the back of the top ......and I can say that it'll be a surprise.

Please.......

......Mimi, may I......?

.....Totally Ikea Top

Last month, I had bought three cuttings of Ikea fabric.  It isn't really the same cotton like American fabric but it is 100% cotton, a bit heavier than American cotton.

Of course I prewashed all pieces.

But I had only three patterns: one solid, stripes and little cheched so........I have played with the blocks!

Squares, HST, Log Cabin, Stripes, Scraps........

I think that I will make the back with soft fleece, without internal batting, then a simple machine quilting, may be straight lines!

It is a WIP......a big WIP for me!

....but I have my dear Mimi, my special assistant.....

....sometimes!!!

Tests continue.....but I can't.....

I tried to lay down the blocks like a "spiral":

This way doesn't convince Anna, my daughter.

So....game over....

I like the last one!

 After all, the best solution is the easiest way : simple combination of colors and neat rows!!! 

But now..... I'm not in a hurry to finish this top: the next ten days I'll be at my parent's house. They live in another town and my mom is sick (she fell and broke a bone of the pelvis). She can not get out of bed and I go there to help  her and my father (he is "strong" but he is 87 years old...!).

So.... in the coming days, patchwork and quilting will be my last problem!

I hope to come back soon in Blogland......with my mind more quiet.

Second test....

In these last days, I unstitched the purple blocks and the magenta blocks because the purple ones looked too dark. Then I exchanged the colors: purple centers with magenta stripes and magenta centers with purple stripes. This is the result:

Now I have more balance with the colors and I eliminated the part too dark.
But..... I'm still not satisfied!  Game over!
My niece Maira advesed me to lay the blocks like a spiral: it's a good idea and I have to try this way!
Then..... we'll see what will come out!

WIP - OTHER BLOCKS

These last two afternoon I menaged to sew the blocks  for the quilt on work.

Now there are warm colors for these cute blocks!

In the coming days I'll sew all blocks, cold and warm colors, all together!!!

WIP-First blocks.

Here  there are the first blocks that I made in these last days (not a lot, if I have to tell the truth....!)
I began with the cold colors.....

.....the next blocks will be with warm colors.

Baby Quilt n.1 WIP.....

During this Saturday afternoon, I sewed this cute top. It will be my first baby quilt, a present for Marta's newborn baby.

I cut 100 little squares, 10 cm. X 10 cm., using mostly scraps or ikea cotton fabric, and I like very much the result!
I think that I will use soft fleece for the back: a white Ikea Polarvide Plaid will be perfect!!!
Then I 'll make a simple quilting, may be with the machine.
I like very much the light blue,  the white and the little touch of red: it looks like really "baby" but not too "sweet". The right style for a "little man".
