MISTERY 2013 - WIP # 3

This week I'm pretty satisfied with the progresses of this Mistery because I'm well under way!
The step was 488 HST (2"X 2") ....not a joke!!!
But....HST is one of my favourite blocks and you can see here, here and here my HST  experience!
Since I haven't Easy Angle ruler, I cut the pieces for the units following my method .......even better a little "trick": I cut 4"- 3/4 (12 cm.) orange and yellow squares, drew the diagonals and then, right face with right face, I sewed on the right and the left of those. At last, I cut on the two diagonals and on the two medians.......VOILA'
8 perfect HST 2" X 2".

Love at first sight!!!

Saturday 30 November 2013

OK......I'm ready to go!!!!

Today I prepared my sewing area for my first Mistery Quilt:
"Celtic Solstice Mistery 2013"
I followed all the istructions that Bonnie Hunter has advised:
I clean my sewing machine and put a new needle, preparated several bobbins and a new blade in the rotary cutter, little scissor and seam ripper,  all fabrics prepared by color and plastic templates for the first block (I haven't Tri Recs ruler...!).
Last but not least.....my favourite music in this period:  Christmas songs from 181.FM CHRISTMAS RADIO from U.S.A. .......all traditional music!!!!

So.....
for this first part I have to make "ONLY" 140 little blocks with orange background and 240 with neutral background.....
.ONLY!!!!
And this work for the next Friday!!!!
I have to say.....I'm a bit scared.......

KASURI ZIG ZAG QUILT

I finally finished this quilt!!!
The top waited all summer its turn....but now Kasuri Zig zag quilt is the protagonist!

I used a layer cake "Kasuri" by Moda and light cream solid from my stash.
The zig zag pattern is simple but with great effect and I  sewed the blocks following an easy tutorial that I found on the blog "Denise room" .
The measures are 160 cm X 160 cm (about 63" X 63"), 100 little HST blocks.
On the back I used, for the first time, a soft sweatshirt fabric (100% cotton) and I didn't put the batting....I wasn't sure about the result!
But now I'm very happy: the quilt is soft, not too heavy and really handy!
I machine quilted with "Shadow light blue" thread only the solid part.

..... new quilt ready to go to a new friend....

These are some  first blocks of my next proiect!
Thanks to Jake Finch for her tutorial!!!
"Fullcolor Wonky Stars"
I use solid scaps for the stars and a beautiful dark gray fabric for the background :"Comma" by Brigitte Heitland for ZEN CHIC.
Perfect for my stars.

I don't know how many blocks will have my proyect.....
I go on for a while!!!
