Modern tote bag

A "Modern" touch for my new tote bag: I made it with an Ikea runner (Marit), batik for the lining and handmade coconut buttons....a strange mix!

I made this one with one fat quarter "Pretty Birds by Pillow & Maxfield for Michael Miller" and Ikea heavy cotton.

New year.........

.........new sewing place!!!! Oh yeahhh!!!

I was sick going around home with my sewing machine in one hand and the cutting mat and the ruler in the others: one time on the kitchen table......but .....and the dinner??? another time on the table in the living  room...but no chance...non peace...no work!

So...last week I moved a sofa from the living room and I got free a large part of the room!

A short visit to Ikea....and that's it!!!

Two Expedit 2x2, Galant table top 160X80 cm., Alex drawer unit (I put 4 usefull wheels) an a cute Ingolf chair!

Taaa dahh!!! My new sewing pace!!!

Everything has its place and I have all  I need on hand.

And now...ready to work!!!
I like it very much!

T.I.T........

.....Totally Ikea Top

Last month, I had bought three cuttings of Ikea fabric.  It isn't really the same cotton like American fabric but it is 100% cotton, a bit heavier than American cotton.
Of course I prewashed all pieces.
But I had only three patterns: one solid, stripes and little cheched so........I have played with the blocks!
Squares, HST, Log Cabin, Stripes, Scraps........

I think that I will make the back with soft fleece, without internal batting, then a simple machine quilting, may be straight lines!

Ikea Table Runner? Noooo,.......a new bag!

I like to try out new ideas with different materials and.....why not?....not too expensive!
An Ikea Table Runner is perfect for an experiment!

The cotton fabric is very strong and it has the right heaviness; batting or interfacing aren't needed if you want to make a tote bag.

So.....said and done!

For the lining I used a cute flowers fabric, bought at Irene's shop (La Volpe Rossa), and green ikea cotton......

It's an everyday tote bag: strong and simple!

Another little work in this week:

For this pouch I used terrycloth lining: it was very difficult to work with the terrycloth but I wanted to try. I had a piece of this fabric and I thought it was adapt for a pouch.....moreover it had my favourite color in this period.....
ACID GREEN!!!

Weekly work!

Little by little, despite hot days and hard family commitments, this  tote bag is finished.
With a little piece of Ikea fabric and cute details........ I love this work!

A good work by hand....

It's really a summer bag!

My new bag!

This is the work of a Saturday afternoon!
Yesterday, I didn't want to begin the basting of "My friend Pips" quilt: it's a big work and I hadn't the right mind............so........I decided  for a simple handmade work.
With a little piece of Ikea fabric, I made this useful bag: the project is speedy and I worked with the fabric that I had.  For the fabric inside I used a piece of a pillowcase of an old Ikea sheets set.

I can use it in several ways: like a shopping bag or to carry my handmade works when I go to meet my quilter friends. I like the  simplicity of the design and the cool colours: they are on my style!
