A new book and a new block.

Last thursday was a good day! In the morning I received , from Beth of Love Laugh Quilt, the book that I won last month on her giveaway!
The book is "Out of the Box with easy blocks" and the authors are Mary Lou Weidman and Melanie Bautista McFarland. The book is really intriguing and I think that I will learn a lot about technical.

Inside there is a kind note from Beth and Mary Lou and Melanie autographs!

Later, in the afternoon, I had my class of "Japanese X & + Block" with my teacher Nicoletta.
It is  very interesting block, not too difficult to do, but very particular for the use of color.
In true, I have a lot of problems with the theory color: I have to study a lot and make experiments to try to pull out my colored part (that I hope to have inside me)!

This is the block made with fall colors.....

....and this with other colored scaps!
I like both!

"Elephants tote bag"

This is the first project with a fabric that I bought in Paris last days.
I know that my niece Maira loves elephants, her favourite animals, and so, when I saw this cute fabric in a store in Montmarte, I immediately thought: "Here it is! The right pattern!"
A tote bag is always a welcome and useful gift! Of course, it is a simple project because the days are full of things to do and the time is... pressing!

Inside I made two  little patch pockets, for mobile phone, hanky or keys.

The Roxy label is always in its place.
Maira has already received her gift ......and she likes it very much!

Paris: what I bought and....where!!!!!

I came back from Paris with a little treasure: new fabrics!
When I arrived in France, I had only two address of quilting shops and I wanted to find both. The first was "Le Rouvray", a famous shop near Notre Dame Cathedral. I was very curious to see it and to buy some fabric but the shop..........was closed!! It was on holiday all august!
Ok! Never mind, I think: there will be other stores!
In fact, I found another beautiful shop, "Ines", where I bought two set of fabric and near Sacre Coeur Cathedral, Montmarte, there were a lot of fabric's stores with beautiful fabrics and with prices not too...hot (for Paris, of course!).
Here there is what I bought.....

......and here there are the address and links:
"Le Rouvray" -6, Rue Des Grand Degrès, 75005 Paris
"Inès-La Boutique du Patchwork" -37, Rue Saint Ambroise, 75011 Paris
"Tissus Reine" - 3, 5 Place St. Pierre, 75018 Paris
"MolineMercerie" - 2, 4, 6 Rue Livingstone, 75018 Paris
"Marche Saint Pierre" - 2, Rue Charles Nodier, 75018 Paris

Good shopping who will go to Paris!!!

Holiday?.......OUI

Ok, Friends! D Day is arrived!
In the afternoon, we leave for holidays: ten beautiful days, me and my daughter Anna, in Paris.
We have "free house" of our friend Maria Chiara and so we'll stay there really like Parisian.
This is our third time in Paris but this is my first time as a quilter: I'll see all with other eyes.
These last days were very heavy and hard because of some health problems of my parents: I did'nt sure if I could leave. Now, the situation is getting better and so......off we go!!!
I'll take with me my Mac and so I'll be able to post on the blog, pics or thoughts.
I back soon and au revoir amis!!!

The Baby Quilt is finished...

Cloudy sunday afternoon..... and this little beauty is done!

I quilted it with the sewing machine with large stippling (my dear "Big Bagigi") and for the binding I used Ikea red Hippos. The finished quilt measures 90 cm. X 90 cm.

The back is like a soft whipped cream!

Now, this little treasure (at least for me) is ready to meet his new baby friend!

Baby Quilt n.1 WIP.....

During this Saturday afternoon, I sewed this cute top. It will be my first baby quilt, a present for Marta's newborn baby.

I cut 100 little squares, 10 cm. X 10 cm., using mostly scraps or ikea cotton fabric, and I like very much the result!
I think that I will use soft fleece for the back: a white Ikea Polarvide Plaid will be perfect!!!
Then I 'll make a simple quilting, may be with the machine.
I like very much the light blue,  the white and the little touch of red: it looks like really "baby" but not too "sweet". The right style for a "little man".
